The embassy in Canberra sent out an email invitation titled "meeting" to an unknown number of recipients, and attached to the email was a photo of a cat wearing blue pajamas holding a plate of cookies.
Embassy spokesman Gavin Sundwall told the Australian Associated Press that the email was a training error.
Sorry to disappoint those of you who were hoping to attend this 'cat pyjama-jam' party, but such an event falls well outside our area of expertise," Sundwall said.
The embassy in New Zealand thinks the email was executed by a cat.

Others are disappointed they didn't get an invite to the cat pajama party.
A little disappointed that it was canceled, but also @USAembassyinOZ … we never received an invite?! We may have to host! 😺🎉 pic.twitter.com/kXsgqqPrXi

For those wondering, the cat in the photo belongs to Jennifer Stewart of Melbourne.
